Abstract
The switching transients generated from switching of low inductive and capacitor current for a 400kV, IEEE 14 bus systems are presented. The simulations are carried out using the software EMTDC/PSCAD, corresponding results of transient over voltages and inrush currents for different types of capacitive and inductive current switching including shunt reactor switching, single capacitor bank switching and back to back capacitor switching etc. the results are described in detail. In this paper the testing requirements for different types of capacitive current switching and inductive current switching as per IEC international standards are also discussed.
